Audrey Hepburn is rolling in her grave right now
The turtleneck and black skinny pants Audrey is wearing in these Gap ads were designed by Hubert de Givenchy. They were fit, cut and put together in Givenchy’s workroom in Paris. It’s so wrong that Gap gets to use all that but it works!

Jeeesus. She’d be turning in her grave. It looks like a cheap cartoon of Mr Benn.

what a great ad! what’s the agency?? They are really good.

The pants are fine but Audrey needs a slap!
September 13th, 2006 at 2:25 pm
NO way is she dead? God where I have been…

just what I was thinking. Gap clothes often look totally inspiring in the ads (that would probably explain my bout of swing-dancing), but when you see them up close they are just awful.

Ugh, I think I just threw up a little in my mouth. Hepburn stood for everything the GAP label isn’t- taste, sophistication, and timeless elegance.
September 13th, 2006 at 6:28 pm
holy sh*t!! that is seriously just wrong!!
September 13th, 2006 at 7:09 pm
when describing the ad to my friends, i said she was turning in her grave just like it was turning my stomach. and i felt clever there for a little bit.
it’s awful though, truly awful.

who sold the rights to GAP to use the clips? i guess EVERYTHING is for sale.
September 14th, 2006 at 2:55 pm
actually, in exchange for the rights, gap made a generous donation to the audrey hepburn foundation…

Poor, poor Audrey. These commercials scare the fucking shit out of me. Its safe to say I’ll be avoiding Gap for a while.
September 15th, 2006 at 1:50 pm
i’m glad i wasn’t the only one horrified when i saw those ads >_<
September 15th, 2006 at 4:54 pm
I can’t believe those adds.

I actually think that they are brilliant. Funny Face meets AC/DC. Audrey Hepburn was a very modern woman…I think this ad invites so many younger people into the hisory of the Beatniks, Jazz, Paris in the 50’s and 60’s, Richard Avedon etc.

i don’t see anything wrong with those ads. i actually think the commercial is very fun, clever, and modern. audrey hepburn is an icon for classic style (not overbearing snobbery), and isn’t that exactly what the gap is trying to replicate for a wider audience? while the gap is certainly not comparable to givenchy, it could hardly be considered trash either.
September 23rd, 2006 at 6:54 pm
What really bothers me is the Audrey Hepburn probably never danced around to AC/DC.
September 25th, 2006 at 1:57 pm
Gap is making a substantial donation to Hepburn’s children’s charity in return.

I *hate* these commercials. The first time I saw them, I felt it was pure sacrilege. And the pants are crap.
September 26th, 2006 at 1:58 am
Proves again that if you have a great body like Audrey that anything looks good one you – even skinny pants.
September 26th, 2006 at 1:21 pm
Gap needs to get over its narcolepsy.
September 27th, 2006 at 9:26 pm
Gap needs to get over its thievery….and get some (and I mean just a little) originality. Oh, what am I saying? Whores and thieves are really funny, right? And cool. GAD!

i love the commercial; i hate gap.

You know, I’m wearing the pants right now, but it doesn’t feel so bad when I know I haven’t paid for them — screwing over the Gap and also nice free pants… everyone wins!
