No offense to all the horses out there but you’ve become quite a cliche. First Madonna and Steven Klein, then Hermes and Givenchy and now we have Mario Testino going down the same equestrian path. And although excessive bonding with nature is completely unnecessary, the actual horses are still a major improvement from the days of Sarah Jessica Parker…

"Cream and Butter" ?!

Wednesday, August 23rd, 2006

Menswear designer Thom Browne, the man behind those ultracool $3,000 tiny narrow suits that sell out in Tokyo and New York says that his imaginary male muse “eats cream and butter” . And that’s precisely why that muse remains only imaginary.

Does anyone still eat cream and butter?
Let’s be honest, you have to live on baby food to be able to wear any of the recent skinny menswear trends… that’s the truth. We eat watermelons. Beats baby food, that’s for sure.

Fashion Rocks – Sept 7

Sunday, August 20th, 2006

Remember how upset we all got at the WWD’s suggestion that Christina Aguilera is the one most likely to influence consumer decisions? Well, she just influenced me. I mean, how amazing are those Dolce & Gabbana pants?! Ahh!! (I know I’m not alone in my passion for stage costumes).

Aquilera in Dolce & Gabbana

Not only that, she also got me thinking about going to Fashion Rocks concert on September 7. Anyone wonna go dutch on the 8 discounted mezzanine tickets? You can dress up like it’s Kimmora Lee’s fashion show and you are Kimmora Lee… It’s so totally worth the money.

Vogue in 1998

Wednesday, August 16th, 2006

Look at what we have here – an issue of American Vogue from Kate Betts era, the time when Angelina Jolie was doing heroin and Vogue was doing Teen Tribe editorials. Eight years ago teen tribes inhibited the major urban areas and were still rocking dog collars and extra wide raver jeans. So hold on to your cobrasnake pics, mates, in a few years they’ll look just as hilarious:

Too Juicy

Someone needs to tell Annie Leibovitz that her Marie Antoinette Vogue cover looks like a Juicy Couture ad.

Can’t decide what we like more – the perfectly ambiguous model or the pencil like finish of the photo or both. But then again it’s the Jil Sander ad.

Androgyny, fad du jour.

But leave it to Alexander McQueen to take androgyny to a more distrubing length

Project Mansonland

Friday, August 11th, 2006

Now here’s a collaboration we like reading about: Lily Cole and Marilyn Manson as Lewis Carroll and Alice. We love whoever styled this shoot and want this entire Lily Cole look (in fact we own part of it already).

Bee Shaffer has an article in the Telegraph today about nepotism involved in securing a decent internship in New York. We couldn’t have made this up. >>>

"So what are we feeling for Spring?"

Monday, August 7th, 2006

Now that Nicolas Ghesquiere has gone through Cristobal’s archives everyone wants to follow suit. Marilyn Kirschner of Lookonline.com reports that Peter Som and Thakoon are using old images from Balenciaga for inspiration. It seems that bell shaped skirts and corset tops are here to stay.

Nicolas Ghesquiere, however, tells Harper’s Bazaar that his highly acclaimed Fall ‘06 collection is something he will “never do again”. The rest of the fashion food chain would murder to know what he is feeling for Spring ‘07.

Anna Wintour sighting

Sunday, August 6th, 2006

We’re ecstatic and we’re not going to sleep all night because we just ran into Anna Wintour! She was strolling down Broadway with a young woman (Bee, I assume, but it was dark) looking dashing in her perfectly fitted white trousers and top. She was smiling, happy and checking us out, especially Mr. X. Haha. She comes off as a really nice older lady. Shocking, I know.

Plaid Fad Alert #537

Saturday, August 5th, 2006

As much as we love to hate Michael Kors you have to give it to him: a few of the plaid dresses and skirts that he made for Fall are actually quite good. And they look just like Marc Jacobs *surprise-surprise* Ahh, the things you’ll do to make it to those trend roundup pages in the magazines, eh? But we don’t judge. It’s business. Right, Mikey?

Tomboy Chic

Friday, August 4th, 2006

Summer may be a bad time for supermodels but not Kate Moss who is rocking the androgynous look for the big fat September issue of British Vogue. Photographed by Craig McDean Ms. Moss “indulges in fashion’s new found fetish for rubber and leather” in one of the editorials inside. Gotta love rubber & leather and tomboys – it’s been 16 years since that was around.

The Return Of The Pink Leopard

Wednesday, August 2nd, 2006

You know something is up when the fashion illustrators of the world keep drawing up the same dress. Apparently, Marc Jacobs leopard print creation for Fall 2006 collection looks striking – on a cartoon. But if we had to choose between a pink leopard and a more traditional yellow version we’d stick with the pink: at least it has some irony to it.

Here comes the plaid

Tuesday, August 1st, 2006

You didn’t expect the ever fashion-forward Chloe Sevingy to miss the bandwagon of the season, did you? And who could blame her – come October everyone’s going to walk around in plaid – might as well start now. The Dutchess of Cornwall hats everyone is wearing come completely unexpected and have not been tested or approved by Condé Nast.

We’ll just pass it off to the heatwave

The Boot Rant

Tuesday, August 1st, 2006

We know it’s boiling hot outside but these MJ boots are going to arrive in stores in two weeks. The waitlist has reached epic proportions and already includes a few Hollywood skanks. We felt the need to tell you just because we’d hate them to be wasted on Lindsey Lohans. Ick. They should all walk around in H&M trackuits like Madonna.

Does it even get cold enough in Hollywood to wear these?
