The Miu Miu Look

We like the stiff silks and the bags:

and the over-the-top platforms too:

It’s The Accessories, Honeys

Thursday, September 29th, 2005

*Thank Gawd* We’re finally seeing some color: blues, emerald, ochre, charcoal – what a fiest compared to the bleached-out greyness everyone seems to gravitate to come spring. Blech! That’s why we love Marni. Instantly recognizable by its crafty details and loose fits, Marni makes the coolest bags, belts and necklaces. You’ll know a Marni fan when you see one.

What Zara Will be Knocking Off Tomorrow

Thursday, September 29th, 2005

Miuccia ‘canceled out the body’. Just like that. Waists disappeared, palette became grey, beige, and generally off-white – not the most flattering color for the non-photoshopped human beings like myself. Personal favorites were the loose textured dresses with wide shoulder straps. They looked original and somewhat futuristic. But isn’t that what we expect from Prada anyway?

That’s My Philosophy

Tuesday, September 27th, 2005

We know what we’re buying next summer – Alberta Feretti’s 60’s inspired silk dresses. So pretty. We’d wear them casually with sandals, to unpretentious places like the local coffee shop.

Ibiza Vacation Anyone?

Tuesday, September 27th, 2005

Call us Eurotrash but these see through D&G frocks would actually look beautiful on us. Something tells us, however, that outfits this skimpy might get you gang-raped. D&G should sell a bodyguard that comes with them.

Sienna Miller To Replace Kate Moss At Burberry?

Monday, September 26th, 2005

‘Following Kate Moss’s trouble with the white stuff and her losing marketing deals with H&M, Burberry and Chanel, it looks like actress Sienna Miller is talking to Burberry’s to become the company’s spokes model. In other news, Burberry photographer Mario Testino is throwing a hissy fit and may quit because, apparently, wanted to work with Moss.’ [Adrants]

There are just two Burberry-worthy women in all of UK. Both coke whores.

Meryl Streep on Set of Devil Wears Prada

Sunday, September 25th, 2005

We can’t believe our eyes. Meryl Streep is looking fierce and fabulous. We love the hair and the shades. And we would certainly sell our little souls to the devil if we only knew we were getting a coat like that.

The Originals: Venetia Scott

Friday, September 23rd, 2005

The Indepedent and the NY Times Magazine credit Marc Jacobs’ consultant Venetia Scott whose styling of models such as Kate Moss and Karen Elson forever changed the face of fashion photography. Independent’s Cat Callener tells how Scott’s vision gave birth to some of the most emulated images of recent years.

‘Venetia is an enormous part of the collection and creative direction of the company’-MJ

Scott’s seemingly ‘anti-fashion’ aesthetic was once considered shocking. But in the late 1980s, her unconventional work (imperfectly beautiful models shot in nondescript locations, wearing clothes that appeared incidental) was dubbed, somewhat caustically, ‘grunge’ and later vilified as ‘heroin chic’. The images she created have been cited as the antidote to the super-slick, power-dressed, glossy images of the previous decade.

80’s Vogue spreads: showy. Venetia spent three years at Vogue in the mid-1980s: ‘Everyone was decked out in Azzedine Alaia. It was incredibly disciplined and powerful.’

‘I still want the clothes to be almost the second thing that you see. I want you to see the girl, and the clothes tell you something more about her,’ says Scott of her cinematic approach, which nowadays can be seen gracing the pages of Italian Vogue, Another Magazine and W.

Still, while many in the industry would acknowledge her influence on their work, Scott is preparing to move on. ‘I think I’ve hawked the same old look for a long time now,’ she says, admitting to suffering from both denim and vintage fatigue. ‘Because of the mainstream, it shifts you out of what you love. Now I think I’m going to become extremely chic.’ [Full text]

H&M Drops Kate Over Skiing Accident

Tuesday, September 20th, 2005

We don’t know a model who doesn’t snort blow from time to time. They practically hand them a mirror and a line when they get to the modeling agency. Doing cocaine is almost Kate’s obligation as a model. This was like catching a nutritionist at a Whole Foods check-out line, really…

Fashion Week Recap

1. We love Jessica Stam but her new blond hair is so barmaid tacky we can’t get next to it.

Model Jessica Stam before and after. Je ne comprends pas.

2. Querelle, whose looks are described as alternative, often a nicer word for ugly, changed her gothic dark locks to straw fringe and scored! Alternative girls look prettier blond.

Querelle Jansen, then a witch, now a blond beauty

3. Scarlett Johansson is a carbass. A real muse would be at least 20 pounds lighter.

Angelina Jolie The Face of St. John

Friday, September 16th, 2005

First we couldn’t believe Angelina Jolie is going to push this Laura Bush gear. No woman under 40 should be caught dead wearing clothes so after-year trendy. But now that we realize she’s getting 12 million dollars for it we take it back. Some of our model friends would make a snuff film for that kind of money. We’re betting, however, that St. John just lost themselves their prime customer niche – ditched aging wives.

St. John’s thinking is understandable. Jolie looks convincing enough in a role of a 60’s housewife in Domestic Bliss photoseries by Steven Klein

Kate Goes Skiing

Thursday, September 15th, 2005

THE Daily Mirror today reveals shocking pictures of supermodel Kate Moss snorting a fat line of cocaine during a debauched drugs and drink session with junkie lover Pete Doherty.
As the white powder induces a sudden rush to her brain, she rocks back in her seat and laughs hysterically. The coke is kicking in.Within seconds she leans forward and again sniffs into a tightly rolled-up £5 note, hoovering up every last grain of the Class A drug. It is clear from the extraordinary images, captured during a Mirror undercover investigation, that the 31-year-old catwalk queen is a practised user. [Via perezhilton.com]

Kate’s Busted. Say good bye to advertising money, honey.

Fresh Faces in Fashion

Saturday, September 10th, 2005

Bryant park tents are up and the Fashion Week is on. But last night Fashion Addict decided to skip the Tommy Hilfiger runway presentation in favor of Gen Art Fresh Faces Show at Manhattan Center. This is where the likes of Bloomingdale’s Kal Ruttenstein flocked to anyway. The discoveries of the night were Borne and Rodebjer who along with nine other designers presented their vision of Spring 2006. We saw shorts and cropped pants, leggings and XXL tunics, high waist, belted floating dresses, knits, short jackets as well as stunning hand-crafted jewelry by Lulu Frost and killer-boots by Rodebjer. The clothes were very well-made and wearable, especially Borne, we saw a few things that would be considered directional. But we’ll have to wait for the not-so-fresh Marc Jacobs to have his final say on that one.

Blouse and cropped pants by Borne, Lulu Frost jewelry.

Striped suit, polka-dot dress with a bow, fucshia shoes by Borne, dress and leggings by Beckerman, vintage suitcase.

The Harder They Come…

Thursday, September 8th, 2005

Vogue editor Anna Wintour slipped and fell at the US Open last night in Queens. Aww…but most importantly, we have a feeling we’ve seen this Prada dress on Ms. Wintour before! I guess it’s Ok to wear last season’s clothes to Queens, right?

“I know, you vile bitches out there are gonna howl about this.”

NY Times Writes US UP!

Thursday, September 8th, 2005

Congradulations to our favourite fashion bloggers Barneys and Harrods Girl and Fashionology! It’s The New York Times, yo. We’ve arrived. Here’s a quote about moi:
Lera, another first-name-only blogger who offers her random musings on Fashion Addict Diary, chips away at overexposed celebrities and trends with a venom worthy of gossip sites like Gawker. Her “Must Die” roster, a frequently updated in-and-out list, was topped last month by tiered gypsy skirts, cowboy boots, hippy belts and glitzy silver and gold purses. Turning her eye to back-to-school fashions, she nailed top trends like a seasoned trendspotter, listing bestsellers including Edwardian blouses, pleated skirts, empire waist dresses and T-strap shoes.

Barney’s Girl unmasked in the Style section today. Very Cuuuute!

The Fashion Antichrist

Tuesday, September 6th, 2005

The epitome of bad taste, Paris Hilton and her Greek boy-friend win People’s Worst-Dressed Couple Award. Here are the pictures that will make anyone cringe:

“They’ve reached the level of almost being cartoon characters,” says Kaufman of Paris Hilton and fiancé Paris Latsis’s style (left, in L.A.; right, in Monaco). “Put them together and it’s a smorgasbord of crazy mixes of print and pattern.” Yet no matter how badly dressed the couple are, all eyes are on them. “It’s double the pleasure of bad fun,” says Kaufman.

Rankin’s One Dress

Tuesday, September 6th, 2005

There is never enough of good photography. World renowned artist Rankin is about to release a new book featuring 60 or so women — from Claudia Schiffer and Lucy Liu to LA porn actress Julie Strain — all wearing the very same semi-transparent silk-jersey Gucci frock. Why? To answer the utlimate question: Do women wear clothes, or do clothes wear women? Fashion addict is guessing that it is also a great ad for Gucci. But the pictures are truly beautiful and crazy-sexy. After all Rankin is the artist that can make even a fatty in granny panties look appealing.

“The pictures should be enjoyed viscerally, not overintellectualised. “Fashion was getting so serious,” says Rankin. “I wanted to do something fun and frivolous.”[Timesonline]

Klein wants an Olsen Twin

Sunday, September 4th, 2005

MSNBC is reporting that Mary-Kate Olsen is the choice of Calvin Klein to become the face of his next campaign.
Jeannette Walls writes:

Everyone’s copying Mary Kate and Klein is quick to get in on the action. click here to enlarge

The younger (by two minutes) half of the Olsen twins, stands five-feet, two-inches and was admitted to a clinic last year for an eating disorder. Still, she and sister Ashley are considered style icons by some, as the New York Times noted earlier this year, “In fact the twins are trendsetters for the latest hipster look. Calvin Klein, who famously launched the career of waif-like Kate Moss in a series of ads, wants Mary-Kate … to be featured in a campaign for his upcoming high-end collection.”
